Pregnancy has a way of weaving together joy and heartbreak, endings and beginnings, moments where life feels impossibly heavy… and others where it feels brand-new and hopeful again.
And sometimes, a single story reminds me why maternity portraits matter so deeply, why they’re more than images, more than dresses, more than a photoshoot.
This mama’s journey is one of those stories, and it’s one I’m honored to share as a Reading, PA maternity photographer.

A Pregnancy After Loss — and a Gift She Believes Was Sent to Her
When Alicia found out she was expecting, the excitement was instant, overwhelming in the most beautiful way. Her heart felt full, grounded, content. What she didn’t expect was how deeply this pregnancy would connect to her grief.
Just one month before seeing those two pink lines, she lost her grandmother — the woman who raised her, loved her unconditionally, and stood as the only mother figure she ever knew. In her final months, she was her grandmother’s caretaker, decision-maker, and emotional anchor. When she passed in March, it felt like losing a piece of her own heart.
And then, in April… she found out she was pregnant.
She says she can’t help but believe her baby girl was the last gift her grandmother sent her, a little light placed gently into the darkest moment of her life.
A reminder that love leaves ripples. And sometimes, those ripples become miracles.

Eight Years Later, a New Chapter Begins
This is Alicia's last pregnancy, a beautiful eight-year gap from her previous child. She wanted this baby so deeply. And with every kick she feels, every tiny roll and flutter, she feels connected to her daughter in the most intimate, magical way.
“My favorite part is feeling baby kicks and interacting with my baby,” she shared.
Those quiet moments reminded her not just that new life was forming, but that healing was happening too.

The Decision to Have Maternity Portraits in Reading, PA
Like many mamas searching for Reading, PA maternity portraits, she wasn’t sure a session was possible.
She thought they would be out of reach, something other women treated themselves to, not something she could afford. But her heart knew she wanted to freeze this chapter. Her last pregnancy, her miracle baby, her strength.
So, she looked for a photographer who had it all:
A full wardrobe that matched her vision
A strong, high-quality portfolio
Experience posing pregnant women
Beautiful lighting and editing
Clear, warm communication
The ability to execute exactly what she dreamed of
And that’s how she found her way here.

The Photoshoot That Made Her Feel Like Herself Again
When she arrived for her session, she hadn’t taken time for herself in so long. Between nursing school, work, narcolepsy, and navigating pregnancy without her usual medications, life felt heavy. Every day was a challenge; mentally, physically, and emotionally. Still, she kept going. She worked until eight months pregnant. She kept showing up for her kids. She pushed through exhaustion most people could never understand.
So, when the hair, makeup, wardrobe, and portraits began, something shifted.
“I loved feeling beautiful,” she told me. “It had been a while since I did anything for myself.”
There was no rush. The energy was calm, warm, and intentional.
She felt held.
She felt seen.
She felt worthy of the experience she had once talked herself out of.

Seeing Her Portraits for the First Time
When she saw her portraits, she cried, but in the best possible way.
They weren’t just pretty images.
They were proof.
Proof of her strength.
Proof of her sacrifice.
Proof that even in the hardest season, she carried herself, and her daughter, with love.
“I look at my pictures and I see strength,” she said.
"I not only see a beautiful woman, but a powerful one.”
And she is right. Her portraits radiate resilience.

Looking Ahead
As she prepares to welcome her baby girl, her heart is full. What she’s most excited for is watching her family grow, to see her older children meet their new sibling and fall in love with her just as instantly as she did.
This baby is more than a blessing.
. She’s a beginning.
A reminder.
A gift.
And I will forever be grateful that I was trusted to photograph a chapter so meaningful; a chapter stitched together by grief, hope, perseverance, and love that spans generations.
